Future Samsung wireless charging pads may handle all your gear at once, patents reveal

25.07.2016
Samsung wants to make sure that more of itsGalaxy products will fit on one charging pad.

That’s one of the key ideas behind a recently uncovered wireless charger patent with three different designs. Instead of the current flat, round disc that Samsung sells, the new creations are taller and larger, with the goal of charging a phone and/or tablet alongside a smartwatch.

The filing was recently published by the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office after an original submission in January. It’s not known if this is still something being kicked around the Samsung offices, or if the company will unveil a new wireless charger when it shows off the Galaxy Note 7. We’ll find out soon enough, as Samsung will unveil its latest phone (and possibly more) on August 2.

The story behind the story: Samsung is one of the major boosters of wireless charging technologies, selling its own branded charging pad that was given away as an early promotion when the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge first went on sale. Wireless charging is a key differentiator for Samsung’s smartphone line, as not all flagship phones include wireless charging.
