I'll never forget the first time I learned that the mythical game I had heard about on the playground--Street Fighter 1--actually existed. I was at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, NY--yes, that really was the town's name--at an electronics store that likely doesn't exist anymore, and a clerk showed me two items I had heard about before but had never seen in the wild that would blow my mind and become personally highly-sought items. One was a portable version of the Turbografx-16 called the TurboExpress. The other was "Fighting Street"--a port of the original Street Fighter that came out on the TurboGrafx-CD.

While I still haven't been able to find a TurboExpress, I was finally able to play Street Fighter on the original Xbox, via the second disc in the Capcom Classics Collection, where I learned it was actually pretty awful. I suppose it earns some props for starting what would eventually become the still-powerful patriarch of fighting games. But for eight bucks on the Virtual Console, that's all it'll be earning from me.

Fighting Street joins R-Type for the Sega Master System--the TurboGrafx version is also available on the Virtual Console--along with Carnival King, "Aha! I Got It!" Escape Game, and Family Card Games on the Wii. Sparkle Snapshots, Viking Invasion, and Battle of Giants: Dragons Bronze Edition are this week's DSiWare titles. You can find out more information about these games in the press release below.

On the other hand, if you're more of a fan of Nordic pillaging and/or dragons, you're going to want to check out this week's Nintendo DSiWare offerings of both Viking Invasion and Battle of Giants: Dragons - Bronze Edition.
