Datapipe launches largest CloudStack deployment

Datapipe's IaaS offering includes six data centers around the world, including in California, Virginia, New York, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong, representing the largest international public cloud to be built on the open source CloudStack software, according to Datapipe and Citrix, CloudStack's backer.

"With multiple availability zones distributed across North America, Europe and Asia, Datapipe's Stratosphere platform is the most widely deployed Apache CloudStack environment on the market," says Peder Ulander, vice president, product marketing, cloud platforms group at Citrix. Ulander notes that other large-scale CloudStack deployments include offerings from SoftLayer, NTT, BT, GoDaddy, LeaseWeb, Logicworks, Contegix, Tata Communications, Ninefold and others.

In addition to an IaaS cloud offering, Datapipe says its cloud is compatible with Amazon Web Service offerings, which CloudStack backers say is one of the main differentiators between their project and competing open source project OpenStack. Datapipe even named its IaaS offering Stratosphere Elastic Cloud Compute, a strikingly similar name to Amazon Web Service's Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) offering. Datapipe also has a high performance computing cloud-based offering as well as managed service, managed application and colocation offerings.
