Adobe Lightroom mobile finally available on Android phones
Only available as part of Adobe Creative Cloud, Lightroom mobile is a companion app to Lightroom 5 desktop software. Built on the company's cloud sync architecture, it offers on-the-go capabilities to edit, organise and share images.
First released for iPad and iPhone about year ago, the Android version has taken a while to be released, but it works in a similar fashion to its iOS counterpart.
Key Lightroom mobile capabilities include the ability to sync edits, metadata and collection changes to the Lightroom catalogue on a Mac or Windows PC.
You can automatically import images from the smartphone gallery and sync back to the Lightroom catalogue on the desktop, as well as quickly flag and reject photos.
There's also the ability to edit images using some familiar Lightroom tools and presets, including non-destructive processing using Smart Previews.
Available for subscribers to Creative Cloud (complete plan), CC Student and Teacher Edition the CC Photography Plan, the CC Photoshop Photography Program and Creative Cloud for teams, Adobe said photographers would have access to professional-class photographic workflows on desktops and smartphones.
However there are limitations - the new app requires Android 4.1 Jellybean or later, running on a phone with a Quad Core CPU with 1.7 GHZ ARMv7 architecture. Other device requirements include 1GB RAM and 8GB free storage.
In addition to Lightroom mobile, Adobe has also launched Lightroom web, a new way to view and share your images from any web browser.
