Android Auto update adds home screen tweaks and expanded notifications

19.08.2015
Google has polished a few key elements of the Android Auto home screen in the latest update.

The changelog for version 1.2 notes an, “improved home screen, allowing you to see ongoing activities like music and navigation at a glance.” There’s also the perpetual promise of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Android Police spotted a few more subtleties, which may make your next ride with Android Auto a little smoother. The update differentiates the color of the notifications so they’re easier to see at a glance. There’s also a new background image, which looks like one of the Google Now-style landscapes.

Also, playback controls are expanded and match the gray tone found in the Android dialer. Navigation is also expanded on the home screen so it’s a bit easier to spot. Additionally, there’s some space between the notification cards that you can get to by swiping down from the top.

You can grab the update from the Play Store or APK Mirror.

Why this matters: Android Auto is in its early days, so expect a lot of bug fixes and tweaks as Google seeks to get it right. Our review found a lot to like with Android Auto, though the platform still needs to grow before it becomes a true must-have.
