Android device updates: Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and HTC One M9 lead busy week of new software
Other phones get to join the party, with the HTC One M9 and Droid Turbo 2 among those slated to get the new software.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Galaxy S6, S6 Edge: Samsung announced this week that the Marshmallow update will come to two of its four flagship devices, though of course when you’ll see this depends upon your carrier. Samsung also didn’t indicate when the GS6 Edge+ or Note 5 will get Marshmallow (though some have spotted Marshmallow builds on international Note models), but this release at least gives us hope it won’t be too long.
Samsung, of course, offered its own spin on Marshmallow, with the update including several new enhancements to the Edge screen.
One M9 (T-Mobile): An over-the-air update to Android Marshmallow began rolling out this week. The T-Mobile support site says the update is live, so it’s time to fire up settings if you haven’t been pinged for the update yet.
One M9 (Verizon): Same goes for the version of the HTC One M9 on Big Red. HTC’s Mo Versi delivered the news via Twitter, so check it out if you’ve yet to score the update.
Droid Turbo 2: Your supposedly “unbreakable” phone is next in line to get Marshmallow. It’s particularly good to see this device score Android 6.0, since Verizon has traditionally been one of the slower carriers to release updates. The Verizon changelog says you’ll see some updates to Moto Actions and Moto Assist along with all the Marshmallow tastiness.
Shield Tablet: The Android update for the original Shield Tablet is back on, after it was pulled due to reports it was killing some owners’ Wi-Fi connections. The Nvidia forum says you can again look for the OTA update.
Pixel C: As we reported earlier this week, Google is prepping an update that should resolve touchscreen responsiveness and other issues with the Pixel C tablet. The problems have been disappointing for such a high-end device, but at least all signs are that a fix will arrive shortly.
