Android device updates: Moto X Pure starts Marshmallow rollout, HTC pledges 6.0.1 for One M9, A9
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Factory images: The downloads are live if you want to flash Android 6.0.1 to your Nexus 6P, 5X, 6, 5, or Wi-Fi/LTE model of the 2013 Nexus 7. For such a small update you’re probably best off waiting for the over-the-air download, but patience isn’t everyone’s virtue.
Pixel C: Google did the same for its fancy new tablet, posting Android 6.0.1 factory images.
Moto X Pure Edition: Last week’s soak test obviously went pretty well, because Motorola’s David Schuster announced on his Google+ page that the Marshmallow rollout is coming for any Moto X running on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or U.S. Cellular. Looks like you’ll have to wait a bit longer if you’re on T-Mobile, but we’ll let you know once we hear something.
One M9: HTC’s Mo Versi took to his preferred platform of Twitter to announce some news about updates. The unlocked One M9 is scheduled to get Marshmallow before the end of the year. We’ll follow along also to find out when it drops.
One A9: Versi’s other detail was that the One A9 will get Android 6.0.1 in December, complete with support for the latest emojis.
