Apiary aims to improve API quality with integrated testing service

18.08.2015
Apiary has integrated an API testing service with the company's development platform to help developers verify local changes and improve the quality of the code in the process.

APIs (application programming interfaces) are playing an increasingly important role in enterprise app development, as a growing number of companies are looking to use them to share data between applications. To make it easier to create the interfaces, tools from vendors such as Apiary are there to help.

In a sign of growing maturity, Apiary on Tuesday announced it had integrated a testing service with the company's development platform, which can be used to design, prototype, test, and document APIs.

The testing service, which started life as the Dredd tool on Github, changes the way developers create APIs by letting them test interface reliability in live environments in real time. As a result, developers can with greater confidence ensure their APIs will work properly, according to Apiary. Instead of having to rely on and spend time building manual verification tests.

That the service has been used and iterated upon over the past year makes Apiary confident that it won't disappoint.

The service is available beginning now. Apiary offers its platform via four different plans. The one the company recommends is Teams, which costs US$99 per month and supports up to 50 users.

Apiary also announced Tuesday that it has completed a $6.8 million Series A round of funding. The company was founded in 2011 and customers include Microsoft, Salesforce, Akamai Technologies and L.L. Bean.
