Apple's App Store back online after 11-hour outage

11.03.2015
Apple's App Store, iTunes store and other services were back on line Wednesday afternoon after a DNS error crippled them for much of the day.

The services went offline at around 2 am Pacific Time and were unavailable until just after 1 pm, according to Apple's status page. Its iBooks store and Mac App store were also affected, as well as its iCloud service, though that was out for only 4 hours.

Many customers were unable to make purchases while the services were down, meaning it may have cost Apple millions of dollars in lost revenue.

"We apologize to our customers experiencing problems with iTunes and other services this morning," Apple told cable network CNBC earlier. "The cause was an internal DNS error at Apple. We're working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible, and we thank everyone for their patience."
