AppleCare+ protection plans for Apple Watch range from $49 to $1500

10.04.2015
Now that the Apple Watch is up for pre-orders, we have a full list of AppleCare+ prices for those who want their timepieces protected.

The prices are both cheaper and more expensive than unconfirmed reports claimed last week. Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport buyers will pay a little less, while Apple Watch Edition buyers will pay more. Here's the breakdown:

Without AppleCare+, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch buyers still get 90 days of phone support and one year of non-accidental warranty coverage. Apple Watch Edition buyers get two years of phone support and hardware repair coverage at no extra charge.

Anyone buying an iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time can buy AppleCare+ for both devices in a bundle, though it's actually $1 more expensive when you do it this way. Also slightly amusing: AppleCare+ plans for the two cheaper Watch tiers use psychological pricing, while the Edition doesn't even bother.

Why this matters: Apple Watch buyers face a tough decision when it comes to AppleCare+. These are expensive devices, so it might make sense to protect them. On the other hand, they shouldn't be as drop-prone as a smartphone, and the Watch and Edition versions should be quite scratch-resistant with Sapphire crystal over the display.
