The software vendor has acquired StatusPage, which provides a service that lets companies build hosted status pages where customers can be kept up to date about unplanned outages or scheduled maintenance.
It could be a good fit for Atlassian, which already uses StatusPage for some of its own products. The Australian company makes Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence and HipChat, which are popular tools among developers, IT teams and other users.
With so many companies doing business online, tools like StatusPage have become more important. Customers expect services to be available constantly, and when they’re not, a status page can save thousands of calls to the customer service department.
StatusPage can be used internally as well as externally, so customers can build a private dashboard where IT and operations staff can keep tabs on websites and applications.
HipChat is among the collaboration tools that have already been integrated with StatusPage. If a StatusPage customer uses HipChat internally, its employees can stay up to date on an outage without having to bother the engineering department.
StatusPage will continue to be offered as a standalone product, Atlassian said. It also plans to integrate StatusPage with more of its own products, through it’s not giving details yet.
The acquisition was announced Thursday, and financial terms weren't disclosed.
