1 Mainstream’s cloud-based video platform is designed to launch live and on-demand “over-the-top” (OTT) video services on a variety of connected devices. OTT includes cloud-based technologies that allow innovation at a more rapid rate than traditional TV technologies, Cisco says.

1 Mainstream’s cloud, which sits between content and connected devices, is used by content providers and traditional service providers to deliver content across most video streaming platforms. Cisco says its customers can use this to deliver new video services faster and make their entire channel lineup and content library available to subscribers on the Internet via TV, tablet or connected devices.

Cisco says 1 Mainstream will also complement its own Infinite suite of cloud-enabled video entertainment offerings. According to Cisco’s Global Cloud Index announced today, global cloud traffic will more than quadruple by the end of 2019.

1 Mainstream will join Cisco’s Service Provider Video Software and Solutions Cloud Engineering Group under Senior Vice President and General Manager Conrad Clemson. The acquisition is expected to be complete in the second quarter of Cisco’s current fiscal year, or by the end of January 2016.
