Cisco: Deal for Tropo will ease integration of communication into cloud apps

07.05.2015
Cisco this week announced intentions to acquire Tropo, a developer of software designed to embed real-time communications within cloud applications.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tropo makes a so-called cloud API platform that simplifies the addition of real-time communications and collaboration capabilities within applications. Cisco says market trends such as mobility, cloud and the Internet of Everything demand faster ways to communicate from any device in real-time through the cloud.

Cisco says Tropo will allow it to provide a collaboration platform-as-a-service, designed to let enterprise and service provider customers and developers create new communications services with minimal effort. Tropo's APIs and more than 200 developers will let Cisco embed its collaboration technologies into third-party applications and endpoints, the company says.

Tropo will be added to Cisco's Collaboration Technology Group under Senior Vice President and General Manager Rowan Trollope. The acquisition is expected to close in Cisco's fiscal 2015 fourth quarter, which ends at the end of July.
