Citrix launches new tools for Windows 10 adoption and migration
Citrix said its app, desktop virtualisation software and migration tools enable partners and IT organizations to deliver access to business applications on Windows 10 PCs and tablets.
These features are also said to simplify the rollout of Windows 10 desktops and streamline the business app migration process. Citrix said that major operating system migrations typically present a number of key challenges for enterprises. According to Citrix, the first priority is to make sure current business-critical applications and data are supported and available on the new operating system.
Citrix vice president product management Windows app delivery, Nabeel Youakim, said the firm anticipates tremendous demand for XenApp and XenDesktop in the coming year.
"XenApp app delivery provides employees with Windows 10 devices with access vital Windows business applications optimized for previous Windows versions," he said.
"XenDesktop offers a way to dramatically reduce the cost and complexity involved in managing and maintaining Windows desktops."
The virtualisation and software provider said its XenApp platform, in conjunction with Citrix Receiver for Windows 10 will allow workers to remain productive throughout migration. Its AppDNA is free to Citrix Solution Advisors (CSAs) and is said to help automate and analyze app capability and remediate issues, reducing the cost and complexity of application upgrades, migrations and updates.

AppDNA integrates with Microsoft App-V and system center configuration manager to simplify packaging and deployment after validating compatibility. The company will also soon offer Windows 10 virtual desktop support in XenDesktop. it said this will enable IT to more easily deploy the new operating system across a multitude of new and legacy devices in disparate locations. The company's XenMobile will provide support for mobile devices running the Windows 10. The update will enable XenMobile customers to continue managing and securing Windows devices, apps, and data through the toolset. Citrix said it has more than 2700 partners ready to deliver subscription-based, business-ready applications, desktops and complete mobile workspaces, many of those built in the Microsoft Azure Cloud.
It said these partners can take advantage of Citrix reference architectures for deploying XenApp and XenDesktop as well as Citrix NetScaler on Azure. Citrix also announced ShareFile Office 365 Connectors that enable secure mobile access and editing for documents stored in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.
XenApp and XenDesktop recently released a feature pack with Lync and Skype optimisation that supports the full range of telephony and unified communications features, including those in Office 365.
