Dell to aid enterprise customers' move towards software-defined networks
These flexible, open networking products aim to give customers operating system choices with low latency and high density switching to address the shift to next-generation multi-rate, open-enabled architectures.
Dell claimed, in a statement, that open networking is inherent its networking strategy. The company is said to support this shift to a modern network by delivering network switches for every area of the enterprise and providing services to ensure businesses can support growing bandwidth demands and address the challenges associated with scalability and network management.
Dell Networking product management and strategy vice-president, Arpit Joshipura, said these advancements are another example of Dell helping its customers future proof and accelerate the financial and performance rewards the software-defined datacentre promises.
"The new products offer customers complete flexibility to take advantage of open networking environments and new computing models as well as the revenue streams these network infrastructures will allow," Joshipura added.
The company also recently announced intelligent network software company, IP Infusion, as its new ecosystem partner in support of its Open Networking initiative.
IP Infusion CEO and president, Kiyo Oishi, mentioned that by collaborating with Dell, its customers will have a key tool in creating large-scale datacentres that are faster, simpler and more affordable than some solutions in the market.

"As enterprises and service providers see the promise of SDN-based network datacentres, they are requiring more flexibility, extensive enterprise and datacentre feature sets, high degree of scalability and modularity," Oishi added.
The Dell Networking S4048 is already available, while the Dell Networking S3048 will be available in May 2015. The Dell Networking Z9100 is currently in customer trials and is expected to be available in the second half of 2015.
