EA's Need for Speed: Most Wanted is free on Origin

03.02.2016
We might still be waiting on the PC version of last year’s Need for Speed reboot, but in the meantime EA’s handing out codes for The Ghost of Need for Speed Past, a.k.a. 2012’s Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

It’s the latest offering from EA’s On the House program, where older games are offered for the low cost of free—provided you’re willing to sign up for an Origin account. Which is, admittedly, a sticking point for some people.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted is not the greatest entry in the venerable racing series, but it’s pretty decent. Better, I think, than 2013’s Need for Speed Rivals. And it wins points for featuring one of the best songs ever in a racing game:

Other than that, it’s a pretty standard last-gen racing game—big open world, lots of cars, lots of sort-of same-y races. The one stand-out is the game’s weird, surrealist cutscenes, which eschewed story for a nightmare world inhabited by ghost-police.

Anyways, it’s free. For how long EA seems to be back to its once-every-two-month schedule, so I’d say this offer’s likely to expire in April. Still, you might as well be safe and go grab it now, just in case.
