Enterprise slow on the uptake of the Internet of Things (IoT)

21.07.2015
Enterprise are apprehensive to adopt the Internet of Things (IoT) according to a survey commissioned by Red Hat.

Despite 43 per cent of respondents feeling that IoT was immediately relevant to their business and 46 per cent experimenting with its technologies, a mere 12 per cent were actually implementing the solution.

However, there is considerable value seen in IoT amongst enterprise as 65 per cent of those surveyed said it could help improve operations and 51 per cent believe it would assist process optimisation.

Open source was a popular method of IoT development with those surveyed, 86 per cent said it would play some role in the development of such solutions.

Red Hat said that the slow uptake mirrors the classic symptom of enterprises being thorough with technology buying decisions rather than a lack of interest or understanding of IoT's benefits.

The open source developer, Red Hat, took a poll of over 565 enterprise IT decision makers and professionals from global organisations to understand adoption trends of the IoT.
