Floating hard drive offers safe storage for daredevil filmmakers

28.01.2015
If you're the type of filmmaker or photographer who clambers around shooting on rocky seashores, G-Technology has a ruggedised hard drive for you, even one that floats.

The G-DRIVE ev ATC drive comes in a watertight, buoyant case that can be dropped from 2m. It keeps the drive protected from dust and is also able to float.

The company said the idea was to keep your mobile data as safe as possible without sacrificing speed, convenience or style.

The drive is available with 1TB capacity and with either a high speed Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connection with data transfer rates of 136MB/s thanks to a 7,200rpm drive.

Prices are £179.95 for the 1TB Thunderbolt drive or £139.95 for the 1TB USB 3.0 drive.

If you're already the owner of a G-DRIVE ev, the ATC case is also available as a standalone product. The Thunderbolt case costs £99.95 and the ev ATC with USB 3.0 case costs £59.95

Also available, and sporting a removable rugged bumper which is drop proof from 1.5m, the USB3.0 G-DRIVE ev RaW is available in 1TB or 500GB 7200rpm drive configurations.

With a 7,200rpm hard drive capable of transfer rates of 136MB/s,the portable unit is 35 percent lighter than the original G-DRIVE ev.

It costs £99.95 for a 1TB capacity drive and £79.95 for 500GB.

Compatible with both Mac and Windows, both drives offer a three-year warranty.
