?Foxtel more than doubles broadband data allowances

26.08.2015
Foxtel is more than doubling its broadband data allowances after its bundled plans lead to a growth spurt in subscribers.

Data allowances on its 100GB, 200GB and 500GB plans will respectively increase to 250GB, 500GB and 1TB (1024GB) at no extra cost.

Existing customers will automatically have their allowances bumped up to the revised data quotas.

The data allowance of the introductory 50GB plan has not increased.

No explicit reason was given for the generous increase in data; however, its bundled pricing has led to an increase in subscriber numbers, said chief executive Richard Freudenstein, earlier this month.

“Last year we took the bold step of changing our pricing model to attract more customers.

“Subscriber numbers grew by 9 per cent, or nearly 230,000, driven mainly by take up of our traditional cable and satellite products.”

The revised pricing model helped the company reduce churn levels to the “lowest recorded since at least 2000”.

“On average customers now remain with Foxtel for nine years,” said Freudenstein.

This is in spite of the traditional cable company having to compete with a wave of streaming video-on-demand rivals, including Stan, Quickflix and Netflix.

Foxtel bundles its broadband with a home phone, or with a home phone and its cable TV subscription. The plans run for 12 or 24 months.

Detailed pricing and plan inclusions follow, as provided by Foxtel.
