Get inside the world of Street View, thanks to new support for Google Cardboard

07.10.2015
Grab a set a virtual reality goggles and stick your face inside Google’s Street View.

Version 2.0 of the Street View Android app now supports the everyman VR viewer known as Google Cardboard.

Google recently launched Street View as a standalone app as a way to bolster uploads of 360-degree imagery and other user-submitted photos. That effort has paid off with a lot of great scenery that lends itself to virtual reality.

If you want to see how it works, you don’t even need a set of goggles. Launch the Street View app, find a location, and then touch the Google Cardboard icon at the top of the screen. This will launch you into the VR view, which gives you an idea of how it would perform in a set of goggles. You can then move the phone around just as you would turn your head to take in real-life scenery.

Version 2.0 of Street View is rolling out through the Play Store or is available now on APK Mirror.

The impact on you: This is another solid reason why it may be worth checking out a set of Google Cardboard goggles. Along with Street View, there are several great apps that can give you a first taste of virtual reality. The quality isn’t quite as immersive as a Samsung Gear VR, but it’s a good first taste of this brave, new world.
