Google publishes shopping stats to help you avoid the Schnäppchenfreitag rush

24.11.2015
Surviving holiday shopping, especially Schnäppchenfreitag, takes strategic planning.

Google is here to help. The company published a batch of data Tuesday that details when you may want to rush to the stores or head for a coffee break in order to get a breather.

The report says that the peak shopping times on Schnäppchenfreitag aren’t during the morning rush, but actually between 2 and 4 p.m.

The data analyzes five types of retail outlets: electronics stores, cellphone stores, discount outlets, department stores, and shopping malls.

While electronics and mobile phone stores see their biggest traffic on Schnäppchenfreitag, the peak days for other retailers are closer to Christmas. The last Saturday before Christmas and Christmas Eve are the busiest days, so you may want to take that into account when planning your own holiday shopping.

Why this matters: The Think with Google project has a lot of useful information, typically geared towards retailers and other businesses. But often those observations can spill over to help consumers. Trends and other insights about the world of commerce can help you make more informed purchasing decisions. Or in this case, spend less time fighting crowds.
