Lenovo's WRITEit app to supply more handwriting support for Windows devices
The WRITEit application needs to be downloaded and installed on supported devices, and it runs in the background to provide real-time handwriting recognition and conversion to text.
The idea behind the application is to give more freedom to pen input, rather than restricting it to drawing and note-taking applications. In general, it's an application that can be used to supply handwriting recognition to any scenario in which the keyboard would otherwise be used, and this includes Web browser search fields, and other applications that feature text input fields.
A user can simply use the supplied pen for their device to write something on the screen and then have it inputted in the appropriate field. The way Lenovo explains it, 'if you can type it, you can write it'. The WRITEit application adds handwriting support to situations where no native pen support is present.
WRITEit includes a suggestion tool that can provide on-the-fly options for words that have been written on the screen, offering alternatives to typo-riddled words or messy text. Gestures for editing are also supported.
The WRITEit application is so far only available on Windows 8 devices that feature a digitiser, or an active pen or AnyPen technology, including Lenovo's ThinkPad Yoga, ThinkPad Helix, ThinkPad 10, and the Windows version of the Yoga Tablet 2 with AnyPen.
