Megaport launches Google Cloud Interconnect in Asia

21.01.2015
Megaport will start offering Google Cloud Interconnect into the Asia region through Hong Kong.

This follows Megaport's recent announcement that the company has become a Google Cloud Platform Authorised Services Partner for interconnection services to Google Cloud Platform GCI.

Since Megaport announced the demerger of its fibre assets infrastructure to Superloop in November 2014, the company has geared up for global expansion driven by growing demand for scalable cloud interconnectivity services.

This latest announcement means Megaport can now offer users and affiliates the ability to reach the Google Cloud Platform via enterprise-grade connections to Google's network edge, from wherever their data or their consumers reside.

Users can also tie their private datacentre directly to the Google Cloud Platform with a virtual private network, or "VPN tunnel."

Megaport chief executive, Denver Maddux, said Hong Kong was one of the company's newest markets.

"We're very pleased to open for business with such a strong partner in the region," he said.

"We expect fast growth in the Asia region and are now very well placed to meet surging demand for interconnection services into the Google Cloud Platform."

According to a company statement, Megaport enables a differentiated reach to Google Cloud Platform through a fully automated quote, activation, and management platform of network services from a user to Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery, Google App Engine, or a variety of other Google Cloud Platform services.

Megaport users can do all this in minutes from the Megaportal; or developers can use an advanced set of APIs to write applications that orchestrate between their Google Cloud Platform assets and the Megaport Platform.
