Mingis on Tech: All about Microsoft's Surface Book (and the importance of ports)

28.04.2016
Microsoft's Surface Book (Amazon price) may not be for everyone; some users only want a tablet, others demand a "real" laptop. But for Sharon Machlis, Computerworld's Executive Editor, Online & Data Analytics, the new Surface Book is proving to be just right -- sort of like Goldilocks and the proverbial bowl of porridge.

Executive News Editor Ken Mingis gets the lowdown from Machlis about her month-old Book and how it fares when she's deep-diving into PowerBI and Excel or traveling cross-country to conferences.

Then the conversation turns hard 'a port (sorry, had to) to Computerworld Editor-in-Chief Scot Finnie for his views on the importance of ports in the latest laptops. USB, USB-Type C, Gen. 2, Thunderbolt...it can get confusing. But if you're in the market for a  laptop, and you don't want it to be obsolete in six months, Finnie's advice can save you from a mistake.

(And wait 'til you hear his thoughts about the updated one-port MacBook....)
