At the official launch event for the Snapdragon 820, we've learned that in 2016 it looks like there will be more than 60 devices powered by the new processor.

Qualcomm said that it has racked up more than 60 'device wins' using the Snapdragon 820 chipset. That's an odd phrase but it means that there are this many unique form factor designs being worked on by Qualcomm's original equipment manufacturing (OEM) partners.

Each one could be a phone, a tablet or something else and is fully expected to reach the market. Qualcomm tells us that a very high percentage of these design wins do actually reach the shelves for consumers to buy.

As you might expect, Qualcomm is touting its latest chip as its best yet and it will offer a whole range of upgrades and benefits. Alongside the expected boosts in performance and power efficiency, the Snapdragon 820 boasts improved visual processing, enhanced imaging, immersive audio

What we don't know is which partners are working on devices with the Snapdragon 820. It's a tricky subject with big names like Samsung and Huawei using their own chips in devices.

So whether the Galaxy S7, Sony Xperia Z6, HTC One M10 and others will have the 820 remains to be seen but Samsung is less likely than others.
