New iPhones are here: iPhone 6s and 6s Plus debut with new 3D Touch displays

09.09.2015
Apple’s new iPhones don’t look a whole lot different from last year’s models, but the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have a next-generation multi-touch display that Cupertino expects will change the way you use a touchscreen.

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus will have 3D Touch displays that are similar to the Apple Watch’s Force Touch. A press will now unlock shortcuts in the apps you use every day, like Messages, Mail, Instagram, and more. Now you don’t have to launch an app for a quick, simple action like previewing a web link or photo.

“This is the most advanced iPhone we have ever created,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, at Wednesday’s event.

The 6s and 6s Plus also come in a brand new color: rose gold.

Apple is turning Siri into an always-on personal assistant by finally letting you call her up with a simple, “Hey Siri.” Before this change, you can only summon Siri with a press of the home button or by plugging your device into a power source.

And the iPhone’s camera system is getting an overhaul for the new generation. The 6s and 6s Plus feature 12-megapixel sensors in the rear camera without degrading the iPhone’s image quality, plus support for 4K video-recording.
