Nvidia's new GeForce Experience beta lets friends play your games remotely

21.08.2015
One of the neatest features of both the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 is that both consoles make it super easy to record or broadcast gameplay. The features are baked into the console experience.

On the PC things are more complicated but there are a few companies trying to make it just as easy. In fact Windows 10 comes with an Xbox App which is Microsoft's attempt to make sharing and broadcasting as easy on PCs as it is on the Xbox One. Forge.gg is another example (and one I think you should check out). And then there is Nvidia.

Nvidia's GeForce Experience offers the same features via Shadowplay. It's constantly recording your gameplay so you can save a clip whenever something interesting happens, and it supports broadcasting to Twitch. It works pretty well, but it's about to get better, at least on paper.

Nvidia is readying a beta of its new GeForce Experience for next month. Here's a look at some of the features:

In theory, no longer will you need to alt-tab out of your game to manage broadcasting. Instead an overlay will pop up over gameplay and let you save clips and even upload them to YouTube without ever exiting your game.

Even more interesting is the ability to share your gameplay. The Playstation 4 has a version of this that they in fact call Share Play, and Nvidia's version sounds like it offers the same functionality. You can invite a friend to play your game via streaming. You can either hand over complete control of the game to them, or invite them to play co-op with you. Your friend (apparently) doesn't need to own a copy of the game and they'll play through Chrome (after they install a plug-in).

The Verge  got a chance to go hands-on with the beta at Gamescom and you can head over there to read about their experience, which sounds like it was pretty positive. They say the beta has started, but the Nvidia site says it's coming in early September. So far I haven't found a way to get the beta so I'm going with the September date.

Also it's worth noting that you have to have an Nvidia GPU in order to use the GeForce Experience!
