Schneider Electric recognised by UN for advancing gender equality

Schneider Electric has been recognised for its contribution to gender equality at the United Nations Women's Empowerment Principles (WEP) awards.

The WEP is dedicated to empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors and throughout all levels of economic activity.

The organisation's annual unlimited potential: business partners for gender equality event was held at United Nation's headquarters in New York City.

The event included the announcement of the WEP's CEO leadership awards. The awards recognise five chief executives for for furthering the cause of gender equality.

Schneider Electric chairman and chief executive, Jean-Pascal Tricoire, received one of the five awards for his demonstrated commitment to and implementation of policies that advance and empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.

"We are proud and honoured by this prestigious recognition. Over the past several years, Schneider Electric has been striving to implement gender equality and to make diversity and inclusion an integral part of our company culture. This award is a great encouragement for all Schneider Electric leaders, managers, employees who have been active supporters in this journey," Tricoire said.

"Addressing gender diversity and equality is a business and growth challenge. It is a key priority which impacts not only the performance of our organization, but also its reputation as a world-class employer. For many reasons, that we all know, gender diversity and equality is no more an option but a business imperative!"

The 2015 business case for action award recognised Schneider Electric for its diversity and inclusion policy, which prioritises communicating the business case for diversity and creating a company-wide gender balance environment that extends beyond the parent company to more than 10 chief executives of its international branches.

The firm said progressing on diversity and gender balance had been a priority over the five past years. 300 company leaders dedicated a half day to better understand main blocking factors and build gender diversity plans, over 400 women have been mentored and coached.

Twelve Schneider Electric country presidents, representing 120,000 employees have signed the WEP.
