Software AG hitches cloud wagon to AWS

12.03.2015
Cloud computing may not be the optimal approach to every business problem, but Software AG wants to make sure its enterprise customers at least have the option.

The company announced on Thursday that over the course of 2015 it will deploy its entire portfolio of cloud software on Amazon Web Services. The effort is part of a new "Transformation to the Cloud" initiative, which aims to help enterprises figure out and implement the best cloud strategies for their needs.

Software AG's Alfabet and ARIS cloud suites are already on AWS, delivering IT planning and portfolio management, as well as business process analysis. This year, Software AG will bring its webMethods Integration Cloud -- an integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) for connecting multiple clouds, or cloud and on-premise installations -- to AWS as well.

Also coming to AWS is the webMethods AgileApps Cloud, a PaaS and on-premises product for creating situational apps. Designed to be visually customizable, AgileApps Cloud enables subject-matter experts to change processes and business rules, connect with Facebook or Twitter, collaborate with team members and access information from any mobile device.

Software AG chose AWS as its global IaaS provider because of its market prominence, operational efficiencies and broad geographical coverage, the company said.

AWS had 28 percent of the worldwide cloud infrastructure service market in 2014, according to recent data from Synergy Research Group. Behind it were Microsoft with 10 percent, IBM with 7 percent, Google with 5 percent, Salesforce.com with 4 percent, and Rackspace with 3 percent.
