The Google Play Store is going live on the Asus Chromebook Flip

17.06.2016
Just as Google promised at its I/O conference, the Play Store is making its first appearance on a Chromebook.

The Asus Chromebook Flip is the first device to get access, available in the developer channel version of Chrome 53. Google’s Fançois Beaufort posted the evidence of his own laptop, complete with a ready-to-play version of the popular Clash Royale.

The Chromebook Flip, Acer Chromebook R11/CT738T, and 2015 Pixel are the first three devices scheduled to get the Play Store. Then it will come to a larger batch of laptops and Chromebox PCs later in 2016, according to Google.

Why this matters: Android devs see a lot of opportunity with the chance to bring their apps to Chrome OS. Even though Google executives at a demo in May said the feature “just works,” it still may take some time before developers can fully optimize apps built for a touchscreen device onto a more traditional laptop.
