To grab the Amazon Fire Phone SIM-free for just £99 head over to Amazon UK. For less than £100 you'll get a 4.7in-screen smartphone with some unique software features.

The Fire Phone uses the same operating system as Amazon's popular Fire tablets, which is based on Android. Features specific to Fire OS include: Dynamic Perspective, which uses four front-facing cameras to allow scrolling, tilting and navigating of menus without you touching the screen, and can allow you to 'peek' into apps for more information; Firefly, the function of which depends on the context, but can work as a universal Shazam, recognising movies, TV and music, or it might perform OCR or save new contacts and make phone calls; and Mayday, a free tech-support system. The Fire Phone has a decent enough spec, but at £399 it struggles to compete with other mid-range rivals. Knock off £300, though, and you have the best-value smartphone you'll find today.

The specification includes a 4.7in HD (720p, 315ppi) screen, 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, Adreno 330 graphics, 2GB of RAM, stereo speakers, the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC. The Fire Phone measures 139.2x66.5x8.9mm and weighs 160g, and is adorned with 2.1Mp front- and 13Mp rear cameras. Both support full-HD video at 30fps, while the latter can also offer an LED flash, optical image stabilisation and multi-frame HDR.
