Homido turns just about any smartphone into a VR headset

08.01.2016
Virtual reality is the new, hip thing that everyone—and every company—is getting into. But you don’t have to feel left out if your phone doesn’t fit inside Google Cardboard or Samsung’s Gear VR. There are plenty of third-party companies coming out with their own virtual reality headsets, like the Homido VR, which first launched in Europe and is now available in the U.S.

Homido is pretty straight forward: You just drop your iOS or Android device into the slot and load up a VR-enabled application. It’s not that much more high-tech than Google’s cheaper cardboard enclosure, though it does feel more immersive since it straps on your head and allows you to flail your arms around (as I did in the video above).

The Homido VR headset features custom-made VR lenses with a 100-degree field of view, farsightedness and nearsightedness settings, and a variety of optical settings so that it’s comfortable for your eyes. It costs 84.90 € ($93), with the option to add on a Bluetooth gamepad for an additional 14.91 € ($16.50). We have the headset in our possession and will be testing it out fully in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
