How to stop Apple Music from automatically renewing your membership

28.09.2015
Apple gave you three free months to try out Apple Music. After that, you have to pay $10 per month for a single user membership or $15 per month for a family membership. If you like Apple Music, you don’t need to do anything after the trial; your credit card on file with your iTunes account will be charged automatically.

If you signed up for Apple Music when it made its debut on June 30, your free trial will end on September 30. But what do you do if you don’t want an Apple Music membership You can prevent Apple Music from automatically charging you once the trial is over. Below you’ll find instructions for how to end your trial via iOS on the iPhone or iPad, and via iTunes on the Mac.

Launch Apple Music. See the user icon in the upper left, the circle with a silhouette of a person Tap it.

The Account page should open. Near the bottom, tap View Apple ID. You’ll have to enter your Apple ID password.

You should be on Account Settings. Scroll down until you get to the Subscriptions section. Tap the Manage button below it.

Here you’ll see a list of your subscriptions. Tap the one that says Your Membership Apple Music Membership.

This section provides info about your Apple Music subscription. You’ll see when your free trial ends, as well as info about auto-renewal.

To stop Apple Music from renewing after the trial ends, switch off Automatic Renewal. You can always go back to this and turn on auto renewal if you decide later that you want an Apple Music membership.

Launch iTunes. See the user icon, the circle with a human silhouette (If your window is wide enough, your name will next to the icon.) Click on it and a menu will appear. Select Account Info.

After you enter your Apple ID password, you’ll see the iTunes Account Information page. Scroll down to the Settings section. Find the Subscriptions listing and click on the Manage link across from it.

You should now be in iTunes’s Manage Subscription section. You’ll see a list of your subscriptions, including Apple Music. It will also show when your free trial ends, and that auto renew is on. Click on the Edit link.

This screen shows your membership options. Turn off auto renewal by selecting the Off option under Automatic Renewal. This section also lets you select between an Individual and Family membership.

If you want to reactivate auto renewal, just follow the same steps, and then select the type of membership you want.

Editor’s note: Updated on 7/1/15 to include instructions for iTunes on Mac.
