Microsoft to open Build ticket sales Jan. 19

13.01.2016
Microsoft will open online registration for its annual Build developers conference on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the company announced today.

The Redmond, Wash. company raised the price of tickets to Build 2016 by $100, to $2,195, a 5% increase. By comparison, Apple has priced tickets to its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) at $1,599 since 2010, and Google has pegged those for its I/O at $900.

Build will take place March 30 through April 1 at San Francisco's Moscone Center, the venue Microsoft has used the last three years and the same hall where both Apple and Google have also hosted past developer gatherings.

Tickets for Build sell out quickly; last year, they went in under an hour.

Microsoft has not yet revealed a session schedule for the conference or even painted the conference content in broad brushstrokes. But it's likely that Windows 10 will, like last year, be the focus as the company continues to plug it as a revenue opportunity for developers.

The keynote address which opens the conference is usually one of the company's most important of the year, with CEO Satya Nadella and other top executives taking the stage. It will almost certainly be webcast to the general public on the morning of March 30.

Developers can sign up for additional information about Build 2016 by providing their email address in a form accessible from the conference's site.

Registration will kick off at 9 a.m. PT (noon ET) on Jan. 19.
