Don't expect another LG Nexus phone this year

25.02.2016
If you were hoping LG would team up with Google for another Nexus phone this year, think again. A spokesperson for the company told CNET at Mobile World Congress that LG “needs to focus on its own brand,” which leaves no room for another Google phone.

The move certainly makes sense for LG, which is putting most of its resources behind the brand-new G5. This device will also go head-to-head with the Galaxy S7 and several other flagships that are sure to roll out this year. While the Nexus 5X was a great device, it’s not that much of a moneymaker for LG.

One piece of good news from LG: The cancelled LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE smartwatch is set to return in the second half of the year, as LG has apparently fixed the display issues that prevented its release.

The story behind the story: The LG/Google partnership made a great team: The original Nexus 5 and the Nexus 5X made for solid, budget-friendly devices that ran clean versions of Android. But LG has bigger ambitions with its G5, and the resources devoted to a Google device aren’t worth it, given that the phone sells at a low profit margin.
