Love horseracing, but can't stand the thought of losing your hard-earned on a thoroughbred that runs more like a species of camel.

There is now an answer. A new free mobile app enables horse racing enthusiasts to have a flutter on thousands of real horse, harness and greyhound races across Australia.

The app uses pretend money and can be used anywhere, while animated versions of the race shown 10 minutes after the event. It is pitched at novice social punters new to racing.

But it also provides an extra dimension for seasoned betters. GiiUp managing director, Michael Castleman, said the recreational gaming app, promised to revolutionise online betting and breathe new life into Australia's horse racing industry. "Attendance at horse races and year-round interest in the sport is dwindling but GiiUp allows new generations of tech-savvy, app-happy Australians to discover the thrill of social betting on the races but without the pain of losing," he said.

"We believe the app will appeal to younger adults aged 25 to 35, especially women, who can use the app to have a fun flutter with friends. "GiiUp also helps bring the time-honoured sport of horse racing into the digital age. Thousands of people have already downloaded the free app and enjoying this fresh and contemporary way to enjoy a 'day at the races' anywhere." GiiUp, based in the NSW Southern Highlands, offers free virtual 'coins' to place bets on races, with users able to purchase additional coins to place more bets.

The app offers data analysis for each race and automatically ranked the field based on user inputs about the importance of the jockey, horse or form, with users using simple sliders to apply their own theories to a race. Automatic mystery bets are also available. Castleman said GiiUp was positioned to be a top download for those looking to enjoy an exciting new online game or make traditional gambling more entertaining but without the financial risk.

"With many smartphone users already having at least one betting app on their phones, GiiUp will open the field to a new type of user and expand on the existing market of mobile betting apps."
