Laundrapp, the on-demand mobile app aiming to put the laundry industry in a spin, has raised £4 million after running an extensive advertising campaign.

The company secured the funding from angel investors Michael Spencer and Jeff Blue, bringing total funding in the company up to £5.5 million. Laundrapp said the money will go towards supporting its rapid expansion across the UK.

The laundry and dry cleaning service vows to take the woe out of washing by delivering a fresh service to consumers' doors.

The firm launched its service in London a little over two months ago before announcing that it was expanding to Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester shortly after.

It's supporting its expansion with a six-figure marketing investment that has seen Laundrapp adverts placed across TV, the London Underground, radio and outdoor advertising spaces.

The founding team behind Laundrapp consists of Ed Relf, ex-Mind Candy CMO, the company behind Moshi Monsters, Antony Pink of Accenture and Nick Bransby-Wiliams of Sooqini, which has a similar offering in that it helps people find companies that will do their housework.

Spencer is the founder of interdealer broker ICAP plc, while Blue is the former strategic development director at Sports Direct International.

Relf, Laundrapp CEO and cofounder, said: "Our ambition is to disrupt an entire industry ripe for smart technology and innovation. We have the model, the technology and the commercial partners to revolutionise an entire industry, we're creating a remote control for people's laundry and we're overwhelmed by the positive response."

An independent review of the sharing economy was commissioned by the UK government in a bid to understand the economic potential and social issues that are generated when people share products and services over the internet.

Following the review, the government said it wanted to champion the sector and make the UK a sharing economy world leader.
