The first Apple Watch apps have arrived, sort of
As 9to5Mac reports, several app makers are now advertising Watch support in their App Store listings. That means users should be able to download the apps now, and have them ready to go when the Apple Watch launches on April 24.
Here's a rundown of the first apps:
Apple is also showcasing several apps on its website, some of which aren't on the above list. Examples include Shazam for identifying songs, NPR One playlist controls, and Nike+ fitness tracking. The Apple Watch app--a mandatory install on iOS 8.2--doesn't list any of these apps yet.
Why this matters: 9to5Mac believes the first apps are launching now for reviewers who might be getting their hands on the hardware. But with in-store demos beginning on April, Apple may also want to have some apps in place for training and demonstration purposes. In any case, the list gives everyone a better sense of how the Apple Watch will work, and how apps will try to provide novel experiences for the wrist.
