A sorely needed Just Cause 3 multiplayer mod is coming, one way or another

06.07.2016
I played quite a few hours of Just Cause 2. I played quite a few more hours of Just Cause 2’s infamous multiplayer mod. It took everything I liked about the game—huge open world, fast cars, explosions, parachutes—and combined it with the chaos that can only arise from throwing a dozen other people into the mix. Plus, by the end you could drive cars on water. Pretty great.

Whatever combination of business decisions led to Just Cause 3 launching sans-multiplayer, I don’t know. That was Avalanche’s call. But the good news: A multiplayer mod for Just Cause 3 is in the works. Or mods. Or something.

Here’s a video of some synchronized wingsuiting to get your blood pumping:

Now let’s go through this whole twisted saga. Originally the team behind the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod was making a version for Just Cause 3. That’s not the video you’re seeing above. Why Because “Trix,” the central person on that team, got hired internally to Avalanche earlier this year. The hope is, of course, that they were hired to work on a native multiplayer mode for Just Cause 3 but no word yet.

So then there’s this other team, Nanos, who once upon a time were working on a less restrictive multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto V before it was unceremoniously shut down by Rockstar. They’re the ones making this new mod.

Point being: Even if Just Cause 3 never gets official multiplayer, it’ll hopefully get something. Which is good, because that’s really the only thing that would get me to go back to Medici at this point.
